Happy New Year! I realize that we are already half-way through January but it's been a really busy time.

Over the holidays as I was doing my online shopping, I noticed a lot more pet gifts than I had in the past. I was curious. After some research, I learned that shoppers spent over $60 billion on their pets for the holidays in 2016. What are the hot sellers for furry family members? The same thing as for their non-furry ones: electronics!

After a several carefully worded searches and after reading TONS of reviews, I selected a few that I thought were cool and interesting. And just to be transparent, some of these manufacturers allowed me to use a special link that will earn a commission. But the majority of these are links to another retailer, where I don't get any credit at all! i just think they are great ideas.

So, without further ado, let's get down to it.

1. Go Bone

GoBoneGot a bored dog? GoBone claims to be the world first smart bone. It's designed to provide exercise for your dog when you can't be there to play fetch, or for those days when the weather isn't cooperating. The bone automatically adjusts its behavior based on age, weight, breed, and play style to engage your dog longer and more often. The GoBone can be controlled by a simple tapping motion or from your smartphone. The reviews were very positive, but some larger dog owners complained that it wasn't durable enough for larger, rougher dogs. This product is recommended for small to medium sized active dogs... or for those who could stand a little more activity! The link provided has a video so that you can see GoBone in action. I thought this was pretty cool.

2. Paw Tracker

Got a wandering dog? An indoor-outdoor cat? The PawTracker is one of the smallest and lightest GPS tracking devices with a mobile app, putting your pet’s location right at your fingertips - allowing you to locate your fur-child and track their activity history on your phone or tablet. What's most impressive about this product are the reviews for customer support.  Please note that there is a monthly subscription service for this cool tracking device. Right now, you can take $30.00 OFF when you use promocode: 30JAN

3. Litter Robot

Litter-Robot

Hate changing the litter box? How would you like a robot to take care of that for you? (Do you notice that I'm prefacing each of these products with a question?) The Litter-Robot III Open Air is an automatic self-cleaning litter box. Its patented sifting system automatically separates waste from clean litter, so you never have to scoop litter again! This high tech litter box retails for $449. The newer Litter-Robot III Open Air with Connect is WiFi-enabled so you can remotely monitor and control a single Litter-Robot or multiple units. Compatible with Apple mobile devices with iOS 9.0 or greater. Sorry, smartphone monitoring isn't yet available for Android phones, but it expected really soon. At $500, this is the priciest gadget on my list, but may be worth it for some.

4. Pet Net Smart Feeder

Is it time to feed the cat but you are stuck in traffic? Did your boss ask for a favor just as you were getting ready to leave the office? This automatic pet feeder is perfect when you are late and you have a hungry pet waiting for you at home. Using the Petnet app you can personalize food portions and automate your pet's meal schedule. The app is available for IOS and Android users, and can now be used with Alexa. Here is the best part, at least to me, Pet Net has a smart food delivery program, so you never have to worry about running out of food again.

5. Go Dog Go Ball Fetcher

Do you have a dog that can't get enough of fetching balls? Save your arm with the Go Dog Go Ball Fetcher. This is such a simple idea. Think of a baseball pitching machine, but for dogs. I wish I had thought of it! With 3 time settings, 3 distance settings, remote control, safety arc, auto stop feature, and different ball size use, it is easy to have the perfect game of automatic fetch. Go Dog Go sells a regular sized fetcher and one for smaller dogs. They even sell glow-in-the-dark balls for nighttime play! How fun!

6. PetChatz HD

So there you have it! My list originally had over 20 gadgets on it, but I was able to narrow it down to these six. Do you have any that you would add to this list? I'd like to hear from you.
